Finding a team to work with can be difficult in an online hackathon setting. The Devpost platform provides two tools to help participants connect: the Participants tab and Discussion Forums. Additionally, you may want to set up and moderate a competition-specific Slack channel.
Slack
Slack is not a Devpost tool, but is a free service you can sign up for and use during the competition. As a channel admin, you can get an invitation link and post it on your hackathon page. This will allow participants to join. Keep an eye on your Slack channel. It’s a great way to stay in touch with your participants!
Discussion Forums
If participants would rather start a conversation about their ideas and get others to come to them, they may consider starting a thread on the competition Discussion Board. Participants don’t need to do a full reveal, but they should be sure to say enough about what they’d like to do / what they need to get potential teammates excited.
Participants Tab
Using the competition Participants tab, registrants can:
- Look for teammates by introducing themselves to the community. Mention any ideas they have and what kind of teammates they’re looking for.
