Step 4: Hackathon banners and graphics

You can customize your hackathon site banner and the thumbnail shown throughout Devpost in the Design tab within your manager dashboard.

This allows you to brand your hackathon and create consistency throughout your marketing efforts. There are 3 asset types for every hackathon on Devpost and they work together to make your hackathon look amazing. The most important asset, surprisingly, is the Thumbnail.

In this article we will try to provide information on:

Thumbnail

Your Thumbnail will be displayed everywhere BUT your hackathon site. It is used as the automatic social share image, within the hackathon’s card featured on Devpost’s homepage and search, and promotional emails. This small but important image might be the first thing people see so be sure that it is legible and attention grabbing.

  • Specs: 300 x 300px
  • Type: JPG, GIF, or PNG
  • Size: Up to 5 MB

Header Title

Your header title can be an uploaded image or your Hackathon name. Once saved, it will live on the header banner of your hackathon site and overlay the Header Background described below. It is important to keep in mind that this image will scale to fit the screen size. This means that on mobile or smaller screens, this image will never be cropped.

  • Specs: 1170 x 156px
  • Type: JPG, GIF, or PNG
  • Size: Up to 5 MB

If you don’t have an image to use, Devpost will automatically place your Hackathon Name from your Essentials tab as your Header Title. You can change the color of this text to under the Hackathon name text color area shown below.

Header Background

The header background of your hackathon should be considered just as it is named, the background. This image will be cropped depending on the screen size so it is best to not have important information on it.

  • Specs: 2000 x 246px
  • Type: JPG, GIF, or PNG
  • Size: Up to 5 MB

If you don’t have an image to use, you can pick a color to fill the header behind your Header Title under the Hackathon background color area shown below.
