Creating categories for judging
When building out your hackathon, you may want projects to be entered into categories related to the theme / main requirement. These categories may have specific criteria and require judges with a certain expertise to review projects entered into them.
Using the judging feature on Devpost, hackathon managers can assign judges to categories.
Navigate to the Submissions tab in the Manage area of your hackathon site and scroll down to click on Edit custom submission form questions.
Select the Judging Category field to populate one field for categories (please note that you’re limited to one Judging category field) and enter the category options for your hackathon.
To assign judges to a specific category, head to the Judging tab of the Manage area. Then choose a judge and click edit; in the Assign this judge to one or more categories field, select the categories applicable to that selected judge.
Important Notes:
- You must have the Judging category question added before assigning judges to a specific category
- Judges must be assigned to a category BEFORE the Judging period begins
- You cannot convert existing custom questions in the Judging category question
- Judges will only be able to view the projects associated with the categories that you assigned to them
When you begin your judging period, the judges will receive an invitation to the judging dashboard via the email address associated with their Devpost account. Once they enter the dashboard, they’ll see the submission categories within the My progress table.
Judges will simply need to go through the regular judging flow to start judging.
Once you are ready to announce your category winners, navigate to the Judging/Voting tab and you’ll be able to sort through the projects by category.
Pro tip: be sure to write down the winners for each category before the next step of announcing winners.
