Uploading a demo video

For your demo video to be viewable on your project page, you’ll need to first upload it to one of the following video-hosting platforms: YouTube, Vimeo, or Youku (note: check the hackathon rules first as not all hackathons allow videos from all of these platforms).

Keep in mind that each video-hosting platform has its own community guidelines and standards. 

Here’s how to upload your demo video:

• YouTube
• Vimeo
• YouKu

Once you’ve uploaded your video using one of the above platforms, be sure to enable the appropriate privacy settings in order for your demo video to be publicly visible. Then copy the shareable URL and paste it into the video field on your hackathon submission. It will also appear on your project page. If your project isn't in a hackathon, edit your project and paste the link into the Video demo link field.

If you’re submitting your project to a hackathon that requires a demo video, review the rules to make sure that it meets the requirement.

How do I create a demo video to upload?

One way is to record your screen and demo your application using one of the following options:

• Windows (Windows 10 has a built-in tool called Game Bar to help you record your screen)
• Mac (Using Screenshot in the QuickTime Player app, you can make a video recording of your computer screen)

Upon completing the recording, upload your demo video using one of the above video-hosting platforms, and you’re all set!

Why can't I upload my video?

Please note that if your video is not hosted on one of these three platforms, you'll receive a red error message that says, "Must be a valid YouTube, Vimeo, or Youku url."

Why the video on your project page may differ from your submission

Your project page and your hackathon submission each have their own video.

When you change the video on a submission, your project page updates too, but only if it was showing the same video as that submission (or no video) before your edit. If the two were already different, your project page keeps its own video.

This can happen if the project was submitted to more than one hackathon, or if the video was changed directly on the project at some point.

To change the video on your project page:

1. Go to your project page and add /edit to the end of the URL (for example, devpost.com/software/your-project/edit).
2. Paste the new link into the Video demo link field.
3. Save your changes.

This changes only your project page, not the video on any of your submissions. To change the video judges see, edit your submission before the submission deadline. After the deadline, you can't change a submission's video, but you can still change the one on your project page.

To see which video is attached to each submission, open the Submission history section on your project page (linked from the project's main navigation). It lists every submission for that project along with its video.
